Softball team splits with Hillsborough on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team split a doubleheader against Hillsborough Community College on the road Thursday.

The Titans, who are now 19-19 in the Citrus Conference, won the first game and lost a back-and-forth game in the eighth inning for the split.

In Game 1, the Titans won 3-2 as Hannah Strickland picked up her 15th win of the season, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts.

Kyla Leppin had a big two-run double while Elizabeth Bratcher and Madison Ford also had doubles in the game.

McKenzie Jewell and Bratcher each had two hits in the win.

In Game 2, Hillsborough CC scored four times in the first inning and the Titans battled back with three runs in the third inning. The Titans would tie it in the sixth inning and the two teams would trade the lead and then Marisa Shoudt tied the game with two outs.

Hillsborough would score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Samantha Clark had three hits while Livie Davis, Brooke Theisen and Bratcher each had two hits.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to No. 3 Florida Southwestern on Saturday for a conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
