Titans sweep conference doubleheader against Polk State

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a Citrus Conference sweep Tuesday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans defeated Polk State College 12-5 and 10-2 to improve to 15-15 in the conference and 31-17 overall.

In Game 1, Polk State College would get on the board in the top of the first with two runs but the Titans answered in the bottom of the second with six runs. With one out, Jenna Borkey singled, stole second and scored on Samantha Clark's single. Clark would score to tie the game and Marisa Shoudt, Faith Campos, Livie Davis and Brooke Theisen also scored in the inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Polk State would score three times to cut the Titans lead to 6-5. But it would be short-lived as Eastern Florida State College would once again bat around in the fifth inning. Once again it was Borkey who started things with one out, this time hitting an infield single, stole both second and third and scored on Shoudt's RBI single. Shoudt and Campos would score on Davis' double and then after Theisen walked, McKenzie Jewell would hit a two-run double.

Alanna O'Brien finished the game for the Titans, pitching 3 2/3 innings of two-hit softball to pick up the save. Hannah Strickland picked up the win, her 12th of the season.

In Game 2, once again Polk State got on the board in the first inning, but the Titans would tie the game in the bottom of the first inning as Davis walked and would score on a groundout.

The Titans would break the tie in the third inning, scoring eight times as Theisen, Madison Ford, Clark, Ashley Corazzini all had RBI singles in the inning. Davis then had the big hit, a bases-loaded triple. It was her second triple of the inning.

Eastern Florida State College would add a run in the fourth inning as Jewell singled and scored on Borkey's triple.

Jewell picked up the win and O'Brien allowed just one hit over the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the save.

Davis finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI while Theisen and Borkey also had two hits.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Hillsborough Community College on Thursday for a pair of conference games beginning at 4 p.m. The Titans will be back home on Saturday afternoon against St. Petersburg College beginning at 1 p.m.
