Softball team splits with SCF-Manatee

The Eastern Florida State College softball team split a Citrus Conference doubleheader Thursday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans struggled in Game 1 as the State College of Manatee cruised to a 14-1 win in six innings. But Eastern Florida State College bounced back in Game 2 with a 7-1 win in the second game.

The State College of Florida Manatee scored four times in the second inning and up 6-1 after four innings, they would score eight times in the sixth inning to end the game. The Manatees had two home runs as both Alissa Kessler and Hailey Margetis hit home runs as SCF-Manatee had 13 hits in the game.

The Titans managed just four hits in the game.

The second game saw the Titans opened things up early with five runs in the first inning as Brooke Theisen, Maci Vonderstrasse each drove in runs. Then Marisa Shoudt drove in two with a single and Jenna Borkey scored on an error.

SCF-Manatee scored the lone run in the fourth inning.

The Titans would add a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to pick up the win.

Madison Ford went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Vonderstrasse scored twice.

Eastern Florida State College will host Indian River State College Tuesday for a key Citrus Conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
