Softball team sweeps Hillsborough for fifth straight win

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a couple of conference wins Thursday at Titan Softball Complex.

The No. 19 Titans defeated Hillsborough Community College 3-0 and 8-2 in a Citrus Conference doubleheader. It is the Titans fifth straight win and they are now 7-7 in the conference.

In Game 1, the Titans scored three times as Livie Davis, Jenna Borkey and Marisa Shoudt all scored to give the Titans a lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

It was all starting pitcher Hannah Strickland needed as the freshman got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to lock up her seventh win of the season. Strickland tossed the complete game shutout, striking out three and allowed seven hits.

In Game 2, the Titans would take a 3-0 lead before Hillsborough CC cut it to one with a two-run third. The Titans would come back in the bottom of the third with a run and break the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four times.

Brooke Theisen and Kyla Leppin each had two hits in the game and Theisen drove in two runs.

Luci Walters picked up the win, allowing two runs over four innings and Alanna O'Brien picked up the save with three shutout innings of relief.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to St. Petersburg College on Saturday for a conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
