Softball team sweeps Lake Sumter Thursday at home

The Eastern Florida State College softball team won both games of a doubleheader Thursday night at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans defeated Lake Sumter State College 6-4 in the first game and then 14-6 in the second game and is now 13-1 overall.

Game 1 was tied 4-4 and a runner on second and nobody out, Hannah Strickland came in and got the next three outs, two by strikeout. Livie Davis came up in the bottom of the fifth inning with two on and two out and hammered a pitch to right field, scoring Samantha Clark and Jenna Borkey.

Hannah Strickland got into trouble in the seventh inning, loading the bases with nobody out. Strickland fielded a bunt and went home for the first out and then struck out the next two to leave the bases loaded.

Davis finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBI and scored a run.

Game 2 saw the Titans jump out to an 8-1 lead after two innings as Faith Campos tripled in the first inning and scored and then came up in the second inning and hit another triple, driving in a run and then scored during a six-run second inning.

With the Titans leading 8-1 in the fourth inning, Lake Sumter scored five times, ending Strickland's day.

Alanna O'Brien came in and got two popups to get out of the jam leading 8-6. Clark would lead off the bottom of the fourth with a single, then scored on Borkey's triple. Borkey and Davis would later score to give the Titans an 11-6 lead.

The Titans would add two more in the fifth inning and another run in the sixth to end the game. O'Brien finished the game, allowing just one hit over 2 2/3 innings of work.

Campos and Borkey each had three hits in the game while McKenzie Jewell and Borkey each scored three times.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to St. Johns River State College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
