Softball team wins pair of games on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a pair of wins on the road Tuesday to improve to 11-1 on the season.

The Titans defeated South Florida State College 10-0 in the first game and then scored six times in the seventh inning to ick up the sweep, 9-3.

In the first game, the Titans broke through in the third inning with three runs as Brooke Theisen led off with a double and scored on McKenzie Jewell's double for the first run of the game. Jewell would steal home for the second run and then Madison Ford doubled scoring Livie Davis.

The Titans would score three more times in the fifth inning and then four times in the sixth to end the first game.

Theisen had three hits with three runs scored while Jewell had two hits and scored twice. Luci Walters tossed six shutout innings, allowing four hits in the win.

In Game 2, South Florida State College took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Titans added a run in the second inning and then took the lead with two in the third as Faith Campos scored on an error and then Samantha Clark singled, scoring Jewell.

South Florida State College would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The game would remain tied 3-3 until the seventh inning when the Titans exploded for six runs. Jenna Borkey drove in two with a single, then with two outs Marisa Schoudt singled, scoring Clark. Borkey scored to make it 7-3 and then Campos singled scoring Shoudt and Mia Sanchez to make it 9-3.

Campos, Theisen and Clark each had two hits in the game and Campos and Borkey each drove in two runs.

Hannah Strickland picked up the win, tossing seven innings and striking out seven.

Eastern Florida State College will host Lake Sumter State College Thursday for a doubleheader at Titan Softball Complex beginning at 4 p.m. Admission is free to the doubleheader and you can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
