Softball team splits doubleheader Friday

The Eastern Florida State College softball team split a doubleheader with St. Johns River State College Friday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans lost a tight 2-1 game in the first game but bounced back with a 10-2 win in Game 2 to improve to 9-1 on the season.

In Game 1, the Titans took an early 1-0 lead as leadoff hitter Faith Campos got on base and then scored on Brooke Theisen's sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Luci Walters ran into some trouble in the second inning as St. Johns River tied the game 1-1 and had the bases loaded with one out. Izzy Lewis hit a fly ball to left field and Campos threw out Alyssa Vallad at home plate to get out of the jam.

In the fourth inning, Jenny Bouthilier hit a double and Princess Arredondo drove her in with a double. Carolyn Lasater picked up the win for the Vikings.

The two teams combined for eight hits.

In Game 2, the Vikings jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Eastern Florida State College tied it up as McKenzie Jewell reached on an infield single and scored on Samantha Clark's triple. Each team scored a run in the second inning as Maci Vonderstrasse had a bunt single that scored Livie Davis who had singled.

The Titans took a 3-2 lead on a double by Brooke Theisen who scored on Jewell's single. Then in the fourth inning the Titans would score three times and end the game in the sixth, scoring three more times.

Hannah Strickland picked up the win.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to South Florida State College on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Then on Thursday the Titans will host Lake Sumter State College at Titan Softball Complex beginning at 4 p.m.
