Softball team sweeps Lake Sumter

The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept Lake Sumter State College on the road Thursday afternoon.

The Titans, who are off to a 4-0 start, defeated Lake Sumter 15-2 and 9-1 as they are off to their best start in the past eight years.

Eastern Florida State College jumped out quickly in Game 1, scoring four times in the first inning. Jenna Borkey hit her first home run of the season in the second inning, a two-run shot to center field, as the Titans led 11-0 after two innings.

They would continue to add runs and had a 15-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. Lake Sumter would get two runs in the inning, but the Titans picked up the win. Borkey drove in three runs while Faith Campos had two hits, scored twice and had two RBI. Luci Walters picked up the win with four shutout innings striking out two.

Game 2 saw Lake Sumter jump out to a 1-0 lead but the Titans fought back and took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning added a couple of more runs in the fifth and sixth to pick up the doubleheader win.

Alanna O'Brien picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits over six innings. Samantha Clark went 2-for-3 with four RBI while Borkey 2-for-3 with two runs scored and drove in two.

Eastern Florida State College will host South Florida State College on Saturday in the team's home opener. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex on the Melbourne campus.
