Softball team opens season with win

The Eastern Florida State College softball team opened the regular season with a victory over Gulf Coast State College at the JUCO Kickoff at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.

The Titans held on after a wild seventh inning that saw the Titans score five times and then Gulf Coast State College score four times in the bottom of the seventh. Eastern Florida State College picked up the 8-5 victory, defeating Gulf Coast State College for the second time in four years at the JUCO Kickoff.

Tied 1-1 after the first inning, Brooke Theisen drove in Faith Campos who had doubled in the second inning to give the Titans the lead. Theisen would hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, scoring Gracie Snell who had doubled and stole third.

Up 3-1, the Titans put five runs on the board in the top of the seventh, but Gulf Coast State College made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four times.

Theisen went 2-for-2 with three RBI while Campos and Jenna Borkey each had two hits in the win. Luci Walters picked up her first win for the Titans.
