Softball team sweeps Miami Dade on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept Miami Dade in a Southern Conference doubleheader on the road Wednesday.

The Titans moved into third place in the conference with the pair of wins as they beat the Sharks 4-1 and 4-0 in Miami.

In Game 1, Makenzie Fore got things going early with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. It was Fore's fifth home run of the season and gave the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Titans would add a run in the fifth inning as Sam Clark hit a single that scored Trinity Howard.

The three runs was more than enough for Howard, who did not allow a run until the sixth inning, but the sophomore got out of a bases loaded jam, allowing just the one run.

Clark would drive in Courtney Stout in the top of the seventh inning and then Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor would come in and get the save.

Clark and Fore each drove in two runs in the game.

In Game 2, Hedetniemi-Taylor tossed a complete game shutout, allowing six hits and struck out four.

Eastern Florida State College would get on the board in the fourth inning when both Gracie Snell and Marisa Shoudt would score on an error.

Up 2-0, the Titans would add two more in the seventh inning as Rachel Lamoureaux made it 3-0 with an RBI single that scored Jacey Boykin. Then Clark hit a sacrifice fly that scored Ava Bassani.

The Titans improved to 3-10 in the conference with the sweep.
