Softball team picks up win against Hillsborough CC

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a win against Hillsborough Community College Saturday in Miami.

The Titans snapped an eight-game losing streak with the 5-3 win in six innings as the rains came in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Titans got things started early as Trinity Howard singled to left field, stole second base and scored on Gracie Snell's two-out single. The Titans would load the bases but could only get the one run.

Up 1-0, Destiny Lake held Hillsborough CC in check through three innings. But in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Hawks would score three runs to take the lead. Down 3-1, the Titans would get things going in the fifth. Rachel Lamoureaux would lead things off with a walk, steals second base and then scores on Sam Clark's double to cut lead to 3-2. Then Clark would score on an error as Makenzie Fore ends up at second on the hit. Gracie Snell would single to put runners on the corners and Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor would hit the sacrifice fly to give the Titans a 4-3 lead.

Trinity Howard would relieve Lake in the fifth and finish the game for the win.

Up 4-3, the Titans would add an insurance run in the sixth inning as Marisa Shoudt would walk, advance to second on Sam Formosa's sacrifice bunt and score on Trinity Howard's single.

Howard, Clark and Snell each had two hits in the win.

The Titans will host Miami Dade in a big Southern Conference doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Titans Softball Complex. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. and admission is free.
