Softball team loses to No. 1 Florida Southwestern

The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost a pair of conference games at home Wednesday afternoon.

The Titans lost 3-1 and 11-1 to the No. 1 ranked Florida Southwestern at Titans Softball Complex.

In Game 1, Eastern Florida State College scored in the top of the first inning as Rachel Lamoureaux was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Then Sam Clark singled, scoring Lamoureaux for the first run of the game.

It was only the fifth game all season that Belle Sardja allowed a run in but still picked up the win.

Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor allowed just three hits in the game, but one was a two-run home run by Sydney McCray that gave the Bucs a 3-1 lead. Hedetniemi-Taylor struck out five in the loss.

Lamoureaux had two of the four hits in the game.

In Game 2, Florida Southwestern's bats got hot as they had back-to-back-to-back triples in the second inning and would score six times in the inning. The Bucs would score three more times in the third inning and two more in the fourth.

The Titans scored in the fourth inning as Abigail Smith hit her first home run as a Titan.

Eastern Florida State College will play Miami Dade and Hillsborough Community College Saturday at Miami Dade. The Titans will play Miami Dade at noon and then Hillsborough at 2 p.m.
