Softball team earns split with South Florida State College

The Eastern Florida State College softball team split a doubleheader against South Florida State College on the road Thursday evening.

The Titans, who are now 13-20 on the season, won the first game 2-0 but fell in the second game 4-2.

Trinity Howard allowed just two hits over five innings to pick up the win and handed the ball to Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor who tossed two scoreless innings for her third save of the season.

Rachel Lamoureaux led off the top of the second with a single, stole second and moved to third on a groundout. Marisa Shoudt sacrificed to the pitcher and Lamoureaux scored to make it 1-0.

Then in the sixth inning Boo Swoyer hit an RBI single, scoring Courtney Stout to make it 2-0.

Lamoureaux and Sam Clark each had two hits in the game.

In Game 2, the Titans took the lead early as Lamoureaux doubled and then Sam Clark and Gracie Snell both singled to load the bases. With two outs, Faith Campos took ball four to score Lamoureaux.

Up 1-0 Stout singled in the third inning and stole second base. She would score on Makenzie Fore's single and the Titans were up 2-0.

South Florida State College would cut the lead in half in the fourth and then with two outs in the fifth inning, South Florida State would get a couple of runners on for Ashton Lewis. Lewis hit a ball over the left-field wall for a three-run home run.

The Titans would threaten in the sixth but could not tie the game.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Florida Southwestern to play the Bucs on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
