Softball team drops pair of games on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team dropped a pair of games on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Titans fell to 3-5 on the season with the 9-2 and 2-1 losses at Seminole State College.

In Game 1, the Titans struck first as Trinity Howard doubled and scored on Makenzie Fore's single. But Seminole struck for two runs in the bottom of the first with the first of three home runs in the game.

Jacey Boykin drove in the other run for the Titans and had two hits in the game. Fore also had two hits as the Titans had eight hits in the game.

In Game 2, Seminole State took the 1-0 lead in the first inning but starting pitcher Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor kept them in check for the next four innings. The Titans would tie the game in the fifth inning as Gracie Snell hit her first home run of the season.

But Seminole struck back in the bottom of the sixth with a home run.

The Titans had a shot to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning as Ava Bassani doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Snell. Abi Smith hit a line drive to right field but it was caught and the right fielder threw out Bassani at the plate for the double play, ending the threat and the game.

Eastern Florida State College will look to get back on track Tuesday with a doubleheader at Daytona State College. The first game will begin at 4 p.m. and be shown live on WDSC-TV.

The Titans will be back at Titan Softball Complex on Thursday against Santa Fe College beginning at 2 p.m.
