Softball team loses both ends of home opener doubleheader

The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader Wednesday night in the home opener at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans lost to No. 12 College of Central Florida 6-0 and 8-1 to fall to 3-3 on the season.

In Game 1, Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor got the start for the Titans and allowed one run through the first three innings. But the Patriots scored twice in the fourth inning and then once in the sixth and twice in the seventh for the win.

Catcher Rachel Lamoureaux threw out three runners trying to steal second base including two in the third inning.

Offensively, Trinity Howard led the offense with two of the five hits for the Titans. Both hits were doubles for the centerfielder.

Emma Wyman picked up the win for the Patriots with seven shutout innings and Brooke Roberts had a double and a triple, scoring twice.

In Game 2, the College of Central Florida scored twice in each of the first two innings and scored three more times in the fourth inning to post the 8-1 win.

The Titans once again had five hits in the game as Howard, Abi Smith, Lilian Swoyer, Lamoureaux and Samantha Formosa each had hits in the game.

The Titans scored their lone run in the sixth inning as Smith doubled scoring Hedetniemi-Taylor who had walked.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Seminole State College on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
