Softball team defeats Lake Sumter at JUCO Kickoff

The Eastern Florida State College softball team bounced back from a loss earlier in the day to defeat Lake Sumter State College in the Titans' final game of the JUCO Kickoff.

The Titans, who are now 3-1 on the season, defeated Lake Sumter 8-4 Saturday afternoon in Clearwater.

Eastern Florida State College came out swinging, scoring four runs in both the first and second innings.

After Lake Sumter scored a run in the top of the first inning, the Titans had a two-out rally that started with a Makenzie Fore double. Trinity Howard singled, scoring Fore and tying the game. Rachel Lamoureaux singled, putting runners on first and third. Gracie Snell would then single, scoring both Howard and Lamoureaux who had taken on second on defensive indifference. Marisa Shoudt would double to score Snell and the Titans had a 4-1 lead.

Ava Bassani doubled in the second inning scoring Faith Campos and Jacey Boykin for a 6-1 lead. Fore walked and then Howard singled to score Bassani. Then Lamoureaux bunted to load the bases. Shoudt would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1.

Lake Sumter would score a run in the third, fourth and sixth innings but it wasn't enough to catch the Titans.

Trinity Howard picked up the victory with the complete game, striking out four.

The Titans will host the No. 12-ranked College of Central Florida on Thursday afternoon with the first game of the doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
