Softball team rallies to earn split in conference on Wednesday

The Eastern Florida State College softball team scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a split with South Florida State College on Wednesday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans lost the first game 6-0 and then came back to win Game 2 9-8. Miami Dade swept Indian River State College to force a playoff for the postseason spot.

In Game 1, a couple of triples led to four of the six runs that South Florida State College would score while holding the Titans to two hits.

In Game 2, the Titans would score four times in the first inning as Kayla Domon walked and ended up scoring. Then Alyssa Tossi made it 2-0 on an RBI single and then Victoria Vasquez followed with a two-run single to make it 4-0.

But South Florida State College would score seven times in the third inning, sending 13 batters to the plate in the inning.

Ariana Gonzalez would get out of the inning and tossed a scoreless 3 1/3 innings to get the victory.

Rachel Lamoureaux had an RBI single in the fourth inning to cut the South Florida State College lead to 8-5.

Then in the bottom of the seventh inning the Titans got things going as Haley Keeting led off the inning with a double. Lamoureaux would follow with a bunt single putting runners on first and third. Keeting would score on Brooke Theisen's sacrifice fly to make it 8-6. It looked like Makenzie Fore may have won the game when she hit a blast to left field that went off the base of the wall. The drive scored two runs to tie the game 8-8.

Sarah Leach would pinch run for Fore and scored the game-winning run on Molly Reid's hit.

The Titans will not play Florida Southwestern on Thursday as they will get ready for a conference tiebreaker to see who will got to the state tournament.
