Softball team on cusp of making state tournament

The Eastern Florida State College softball team will try to lock up a spot in the FCSAA State/NJCAA South Atlantic District Tournament Wednesday evening at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans are in second place in the Southern Conference and need to at least split with South Florida State College on Wednesday to lock up second place and a trip to the state tournament.

South Florida State College is 3-19 in the conference but has played well against the Titans this season. Kaycee Torres is 6-5 with a 2.81 ERA and is hit ting .298 this season.

Starting pitcher Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor has allowed two runs in the past 12 innings and is 13-5 this season with a 1.94 ERA.

Brooke Theisen comes into the doubleheader hitting .438 with 20 RBI and 19 stolen bases. Teammate Kayla Domon is hitting .425 with six triples and has stolen 43 stolen bases, which is third in the state.

"I think as a team we are all starting to tap into what we are capable of doing and having the confidence that we are more than capable of winning these games," Domon said on Titan Sports Time this week. To watch the episode, click here.
