Softball team in second place in conference heading into final stretch

The Eastern Florida State College softball team heads into a weekend off in second place in the Southern Conference.

The Titans finished a big week of conference games by splitting a doubleheader on the road at South Florida State College on Wednesday night.

Eastern Florida State College lost the first game 5-1 but bounced back to win the second game 11-7 in nine innings. Haley Keeting once again had a big hit in extra innings to lift the Titans in Game 2.

The split puts the Titans 10-8 in the conference and one game ahead of Miami Dade College for second place. Indian River State College leads the conference with a 14-4 record. The top two teams in the standings will advance to the FCSAA Region 8 Tournament on May 6-9 at Boombah Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood.

Eastern Florida State College has three conference doubleheaders left beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday against Indian River State College beginning at 4 p.m. that will be broadcast live on WEFS-TV.

Then on April 23 the Titans will travel to Miami Dade for a huge doubleheader before wrapping up the conference regular season with a doubleheader April 27 at home against South Florida State College.

If the race remains tight for the top two spots the round robin tournament that was rained out on March 12-13 will be played at the end of the month.
