Softball team sweeps Lincoln Trail

The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept Lincoln Trail in a doubleheader at Titan Softball Complex Tuesday evening.

The Titans, who are now 13-8-1 on the season, won both games in five innings, shutting out Lincoln Trail 10-0 in the first game and winning 9-1 in the second game.

In Game 1, Katelyn Wilfert hit a two-run home run in the first inning and then had an RBI single during a seven-run third inning. Gabriela Garcia drove in two runs in the inning as the Titans sent 11 batters to the plate.

With the offense clicking, Victoria Perez allowed just four hits, two coming to start the fifth inning but Perez would strike out the next three hitters to finish off her second win of the season. Perez struck out seven in the game.

In Game 2, Sarah Thomas got things started early with a triple to lead off the bottom of the first inning and would score on Madison Neuahus' sacrifice fly and later in the inning Perez would drive in Gabriela Garcia to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Titans would show off their power in the third inning as Neuhaus and Wilfert went back-to-back, both home runs hitting the road on the Eastern Florida State College campus. Sarah Goldsmith would later triple and score on Morgan Johnston's double to make it 5-0. The fourth inning would see three more runs come across as Thomas, Neuhaus and Wilfert all scored.

Lincoln Trail's Erika Shroyer would hit a home run in the top of the fifth inning, the only run Mckinleigh Millard would allow to cut the lead to 8-1. But the Titans would score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to win the game.

Millard allowed three hits in the game, striking out three for the win, her fourth of the season.

Neuhaus and Wilfert each have five home runs this season.

Eastern Florida State College will hit the road for a doubleheader at State College of Florida-Manatee on Wednesday and then be back at Titan Softball Complex Thursday against Sinclair Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. on the Melbourne campus.
