Southern Conference names 10 softball players to all-conference team

10 members of the Eastern Florida State College softball team were named to the all-Southern Conference team. 

Sophomore shortstop Nikki Pennington was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year and joins pitcher Katelyn Wilfert, outfielder Emily Bartlett and Madison Neuhaus who was named the at-large player.

Pennington heads into the postseason hitting .482 with nine home runs, 40 RBI and scored 38 runs.

Bartlett has played 53 games in the outfield, hitting .403 with 42 RBI. The California native ha a 12-game hitting streak and has a hit in 42 of the 53 games.

Neuhaus has played in 50 games, hitting .401 with 44 RBI and 43 runs scored. The freshman from Tarpon Springs has had three hits in eight games this season. 

Wilfert is 21-10 this season with a 2.42 ERA and 95 strikeouts this season for the Titans. The Boise, ID native has started 27 games and made 35 appearances this season.

Sophomores Caitlin Meyer, Hailey Profeta, Lexi Neiberline and Olivia Everett and freshmen McKinleigh Millard and Katia Zavala all made the second team.

"All 10 of them deserve it and looking back we probably had one or two that could have made it," Eastern Florida State College softball coach Jim Beitia said. "It really just shows the kind of players we have brought in the past year or two. It is nice that the other coaches in the conference recognize we have some talent on this team."

The softball team will open the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament May 2 against the College of Central Florida at 10 a.m. at Boombah Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood.
