Softball team sweeps Palm Beach State in regular-season finale

The Eastern Florida State College softball team wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of Palm Beach State College Wednesday evening at Titan Softball Complex.

The 7-4 and 8-0 wins give the Titans 31 wins on the year and they are back in the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Tournament May 2-5 in Longwood.

In Game 1 the Titans jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and added a run in the third inning on a Victoria Perez sacrifice fly.

Palm Beach State College would cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning but the Titans struck for two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Caitlin Meyer and Madison Neuhaus scored runs. Eastern Florida State College would add one more run in the sixth inning as Katelyn Wilfert drove in Emily Bartlett.

Wilfert picked up win No. 21 with two strikeouts in the game.

Perez dominated Game 2, allowing two hits over five innings as the Titans blanked Palm Beach State College 8-0.

The freshman made just her third start of the season and it was a strong one, striking out two and walking three for her second win of the year.

While Perez held Palm Beach State College in check, the offense scored a run in the first and then four in the second highlighted by Bartlett's two-run single.

The Titans would add one in the fourth and then Abigail Thompson singled to lead off the fifth and scored to make it 7-0. Then with the bases loaded, Meyer is hit by a pitch to score the winning run.

The Titans will open the state tournament May 2 at 10 a.m.
