Softball team splits doubleheader at Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College softball team split with Miami Dade Saturday on the road.

The Titans won the first game 8-0 but lost the second 6-4 in a Southern Conference doubleheader.

Already up 2-0, sophomore Caitlin Meyer crushed a two-run home run in the second inning of Game 1 putting the Titans up 4-0. The Titans would add to the lead in the fifth inning as Katelyn Wilfert came up with the bases loaded and hit a two-run single. Katia Zavala added an RBI single and it was 7-0.

Victoria Perez hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth inning to make it 8-0. Wilfert allowed one hit to pick up the win for the Titans.

Miami Dade came out and scored four times in the first inning of Game 2 but the Titans chipped away at the lead with two runs in the second inning and then in the fifth inning, Hailey Profeta cut it to 4-3 with an RBI single and Abigail Thompson tied the game with an RBI single.

But Miami Dade would score in the top of the sixth and add another in the top of the seventh to pick up the win. It is the first time this season Miami Dade has beaten the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College is now 11-3 in the Southern Conference heading into another busy week. The Titans will travel to Indian River State College for a doubleheader between the top two teams in the conference on Wednesday and then host Broward College on Saturday afternoon at Titan Softball Complex.
