Softball team hosts Indian River State College Monday to begin busy week

The Eastern Florida State College softball team heads into a busy week 8-0 and leading the Southern Conference.

The Titans will play three doubleheaders against conference opponents and also travel to Miami to play ASA College this week.

On Monday, the Titans will host second-place Indian River State College in a conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex. Both teams are among the top six in the state in batting average with both hitting over .328 as a team. The Pioneers come into the contest 6-2 in the conference led by Juliana Speranza who is fifth in the NJCAA with 10 home runs and third in the country in runs batted in with 52.

The Titans are led by sophomore Nikki Pennington who is hitting .483 with six home runs this season and has a hit in 14 straight games. A couple of freshmen have also been on a roll of late as Madison Neuhaus has an eight-game hitting streak with multiple hits in six of them while Katelyn Wilfert has won her last three starts as well as had two hits in each of the past four games that she has played in.

The Titans won the first game of the season against Indian River State College 7-3 in nine innings during the round robin event at Palm Beach State College to begin the conference season.

Then on Wednesday the Titans will travel to Palm Beach State College who is looking for their first conference win of the season and also lost to the Titans during the round robin event, 10-6.

On Friday they go outside the conference for a doubleheader with ASA Miami who is 3-15 this season. Then on Saturday they will be back in conference play, traveling to Miami Dade for the final two regular-season meetings of the year. The Titans have won the first three meetings with the Sharks.

The Titans are off to their best start in the conference in decades and a big week would lock up a spot in the FCSAA State Tournament beginning May 2.
