Softball team opens conference season with two wins

The Eastern Florida State College softball team opened the Southern Conference season with two big wins in a round robin event at Palm Beach State College.

The Titans opened with a 7-3 win in nine innings against the defending conference champions, Indian River State College.

Eastern Florida State College broke open a 1-1 game, scoring six times in the top of the ninth inning. Indian River State College came back with two runs in the bottom of the ninth but Katelyn Wilfert picked up the win.

Nikki Pennington had a solo home run and Wilfert hit a three-run home run in the win.

Then in the second game, the Titans defeated Miami-Dade 12-9, scoring 10 runs in the third inning. Emily Bartlett hit a three-run home run and Pennington hit another home run in the second game as Eastern Florida State College finished the day 2-0.

Eastern Florida State College will play Broward College at 2 p.m. and host Palm Beach State College at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
