Softball team earns split with Santa Fe

The Eastern Florida State College softball team split with Santa Fe Thursday afternoon at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans jumped out in Game 1 with four runs in the bottom of the first and picked up a 5-3 win. Freshman Katelyn Wilfert picked up her third win of the season, allowing one earned run and struck out four. Wilfert also helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Nikki Pennington and Alice Gannaway also drove in runs in the win.

In Game 2 it was Santa Fe's turn to get the lead early, scoring twice in the first inning and two more times in the fourth. The Titans got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Santa Fe's Dontaysha Gobourne hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to give the Saints a 7-1 lead.

But the Titans refused to go down without a fight, scoring five times in the bottom of the seventh inning.  McKinleigh Millard singled and scored the first run on Victoria Perez' single. Caitlin Meyer then ripped a two-run triple to cut the lead to 7-4. Madison Neuhaus cut it to 7-5 with an RBI single and Katia Zavala made it 7-6 with an RBI single.

But the Titans couldn't score the tying run, falling 7-6.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to the College of Central Florida on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
