Softball team loses a pair of games to Manatee

The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost a couple of tight games with the State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota on Friday evening at Titan Softball Complex.

Sophomore Nikki Pennington made her first start of the spring and started with a bang, hitting a home run in hir first at-bat to give the Titans an early 2-0 lead. Teammate Caitlin Meyer made it 3-0 in the third inning with an RBI double, scoring Hannah Crumblish.

The Titans added another run in the fourth inning and held the lead until the sixth inning until Manatee scored five times in the sixth inning to take the lead and went on to win Game 1 6-4.

SCF Manatee jumped out to an early lead in Game 2, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the third and another in the fourth to lead 4-0.

But the Titans' bats came alive in the sixth inning when freshman Madison Neuhaus hit a two-run double and would later score to cut the lead to 4-3.

Eastern Florida State College had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with two on and Meyer up to bat. The sophomore first baseman hit a 2-1 pitch to deep center field but Cheyenne Nunez ran it down at the fence to end the game.

The Titans will be back at Titan Softball Complex Sunday at 1 p.m. against St. Johns River. Admission is free.
