Softball team hosts Daytona State in home opener

The Eastern Florida State College softball team will host Daytona State College in the home opener Tuesday afternoon at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans are coming off a sweep against the Florida State College at Jacksonville as pitchers Olivia Everett and Kaitlyn Wilfert each posted complete game shutouts.

Everett comes into the doubleheader with a 1.91 ERA in six appearances for the Titans. Wilfert is a freshman and has a 3.00 ERA in five appearances.

The duo is expected to take the mound Tuesday against an unbeaten Falcons team that is hitting .347 as a team. Giavonna Auricchio leads the Falcons in hitting with a .462 average. On the mound, Cloee-Anna Smith is among the leaders in the state with a 0.85 ERA in six appearances.

Offensively for the Titans, sophomore first baseman Caitlin Meyer is among the FCSAA leaders in home runs with four in the first 10 games this season while teammate Hailey Profeta comes in hitting .440 in 10 games.

"The team just had a nice sweep over the weekend and has been practicing hard and looking forward to finally playing at Titan Softball Complex, which we feel is the nicest stadium in the state of Florida," Eastern Florida State College softball coach Jim Beitia said. "We are getting healthy and feel good about the direction we are heading."

It is the first of eight straight home games for the softball team, who will also be at Titan Softball Complex on Friday and Sunday this week.

Tuesday's game begins at 4 p.m. and fans can watch it live online on the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
