Softball team falls in state tournament, finishes with 30 wins

The Eastern Florida State College softball team's season ended Saturday morning in the FCSAA State Tournament at Soldier's Creek Park in Longwood.

The Titans, who finished the season with 30 wins, lost to the 16th team in the nation Seminole State College 10-6 in a back-and-forth contest.

After getting down 3-0 after two innings, sophomore Mary Waldron stepped to the plate with runners on base and crushed a pitch over the left-center field wall to tie the game.

But the Titans couldn't keep Seminole State off the board in the bottom of the third as they scored five times to take a commanding 8-3 lead.

The Titans would try to chip away at the lead, scoring a run in the fourth inning after Brooke Diaz singled to lead off the inning. Pinch runner Torri Garrison would score on a fielder's choice.

Starting pitcher Jordan Diaz kept Seminole off the board in the fourth and fifth innings and it looked like the Titans would get back into the game in the top of the sixth inning. Diaz crushed a 1-1 pitch over the fence and it was quickly 8-5. Gabby Orland would follow with a single and Hailey Profeta would double. But Seminole's defense stepped up and the Titans would only get one more run.

With the lead down to two runs, Seminole made sure they would advance with two more runs in the top of the seventh.

The Titans finished the season 30-27-1.
