Softball team hosts Indian River State College in key Southern Conference matchup

The top two softball teams in the Southern Conference square off Wednesday evening at Titan Softball Complex on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College.

The Titans will host Indian River State College in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The Pioneers come into the contest 37-11 overall and No. 7 in the latest NJCAA Division I Softball rankings. The Titans handed Indian River State College its only conference loss of the season, earning a split on March 24.

Eastern Florida State College is 10-5 in the conference and is closing in on earning a spot in the state tournament. The top two teams in each conference advance to the state tournament which will be at Seminole State College May 3-6.

After going 19-5 in the month of March, the Titans have won two of three in April led by the pitching duo of Olivia Everett and Jordan Lawlis who have a combined 2.99 ERA. Offensively, sophomore Mary Waldron leads the team in batting average with a .397 while freshman Nikki Pennington has driven in 54 runs this season, which is third in the state and tied for 21st in the nation.
