Softball team can clinch spot in tourney with wins on Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College softball team can lock up a spot in the FCSAA Softball Tournament this weekend.

The Titans sit in second place in the Southern Conference with 10 wins and can secure at least second place in the conference with two wins over Miami Dade College on Saturday.

Eastern Florida State College comes into the doubleheader at Titan Softball Complex on a five-game win streak and has won seven of the past eight games.

Freshman Nikki Pennington has gone 5-for-15 with two home runs and five runs batted in the past five games and now has 54 RBIs on the season which is tied for 15th in the country. Teammates Hannah Crumblish and Caitlin Meyer have also homered during the five-game win streak and Mary Waldron is 7-for-18 with six runs scored leading off.

 Starting pitcher Jordan Lawlis has picked up wins in the past four games she has started, allowing six earned runs in the last 28 innings.

Miami Dade is currently in third place and has won two in a row and need to sweep the Titans to stay alive. Game 1 will begin at 1 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex and admission is free.
