Softball team sweeps Palm Beach State

The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept Palm Beach State College in a Southern Conference doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans improved to 8-4 in the conference and 25-22-1 overall with the 6-1 and 2-1 victories.

Eastern Florida State College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Lexi Harmon drove in Caitlin Meyer and Hannah Crumblish in the bottom of the first inning. The Titans would add two more runs in the second inning as Meyer ripped a double to the wall, scoring Savana Garrison and Mary Waldron.

Garrison would double and score on Mary Waldron's single in the fourth inning and Waldron scored the sixth run on Nikki Pennington's RBI double.

Olivia Everett picked up the win, allowing one run for her 12th victory of the season.

In Game 2, Palm Beach State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as starter Jordan Lawlis put four of the first five hitters on base. But she would settle down and allowed one walk and hit a batter over the next four innings.

Lawlis helped herself out with a single in the second and scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Mary Waldron would drive in Savana Garrison for the second run of the game.

That was all Lawlis would need as the sophomore allowed four hits to pick up her sixth straight win and 13th win of the season.

Meyer, who was named the Region 8 Player of the Week earlier this week, now has a seven-game hitting streak and teammate Mary Waldron went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader.

The Titans will travel to the Florida State College at Jacksonville Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. They will return to Titan Softball Complex April 7, hosting Miami Dade.
