Softball team sweeps Iowa Central Community College

The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept Iowa Central Community College Thursday night at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans picked up 6-1, 8-1 wins and improved to 18-20-1 on the season.

In Game 1, starting pitcher Olivia Everett allowed one run on four hits to pick up her eighth win of the season. Shortstop Nikki Pennington hit a two-run home run to straightaway centerfield in the third inning and then in the fifth inning the freshman hit a single, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

Mary Waldron shined both offensively and defensively, going 2-for-3 while making two nice catches and turning them into a double play twice. Gabby Orland and Brooke Diaz also had two hits in the game.

The second game saw Jordan Lawlis allowed one run on three hits and struck out four for her ninth win of the season.

Diaz scored the first run of the game after doubling and scoring on an error. Waldron hit an RBI double to make it 2-0 in the second inning.

Waldron came up with two on in the fourth inning and hit another double, driving in two more runs. Waldron would finish with four RBI in the second game. The sophomore has now recorded a hit in 13 straight games.

Hannah Crumblish had two hits and scored twice in the game.

Iowa Central's lone run came in the fifth inning on an Alyssa Dema home run.

The Titans will travel to Miami-Dade for a Southern Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The two teams will play again on Sunday. Then they will host Broward College Wednesday night beginning at 2 p.m. The game will be shown live on WEFS-TV and online at efsctitans.com/webcast
