Softball team earns split with Daytona State College

The Eastern Florida State College softball team scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a split with Daytona State College Tuesday night at Titan Softball Complex.

Down 4-2 in the sixth inning of the second game of the day, Alice Gannaway led off with a triple down the left-field line. Gannaway would score on a passed ball to cut the lead to 4-3.

Brooke Diaz beat out the throw for an infield single and scored on an error to tie the game. With two on and one out, Mary Waldron stepped up to the plate and ripped a triple and scored on the throw to break the game open.

The top of the order led the offensive attack as Hannah Crumblish went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Waldron went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Jordan Lawlis picked up her second win of the season, pitching seven strong innings, allowing three earned runs and struck out four including the final two hitters she faced to lock down the 7-4 win.

In Game 1, Daytona State College picked up the 2-1 win in a game shown live on WEFS-TV.

Olivia Everett got the start and after giving up two runs in the third inning, retired the next 10 batters and finished with four strikeouts in the game.

The Titans cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth inning as Waldron hit a triple and scored on Caitlin Meyer's double.

Waldron went 3-for-3 in the game and was 5-for-7 on the day.

The Titans will host the Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday with the first game beginning at 2 p.m. Admission to games at Titan Softball Complex are free.
