The Eastern Florida State College softball team split a pair of games on Day 1 of the JUCO Kickoff at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater.
In the opener, sophomore pitcher Jordan Lawlis tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits in a 2-1 victory over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
With one out in the fifth inning, Mary Waldron hit a double and scored on Lawlis' single. After Brooke Diaz walked, Alice Gannaway drove in the game-winning run.
It was all Lawlis would need as the sophomore struck out two in her first win of the season.
Game 2 saw No. 19 Northwest Florida State College jump out to an early 3-0 lead and beat the Titans 11-5.
Lawlis had three hits in the game and Hannah Crumbish drove in two.
Eastern Florida State College will be back in action on Saturday, facing Tallahassee Community College at 11 a.m. and then No. 16 College of Central Florida at 3:30 p.m. on Day 2 of the JUCO Kickoff.
