Titans softball team falls on Day 2 of state tournament

The Eastern Florida State College softball team's season ended in the state tournament on Saturday morning.

The Titans had advanced to Day 2 of the tournament at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, but could not get past a couple of errors as Daytona State went on to end the Titans season, winning 12-3 in five innings.

After Daytona State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Titans came back in the top of the second inning as Abby Ferlin led off with a single and sophomore designated player Karli Smith stepped to the plate. Smith crushed a 2-2 pitch over the left-center field wall to give the Titans a 2-1 lead.

It would not last as Daytona State added three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Mary Waldron cut into the lead with a solo home run to left field in the third inning but that was as close as the Titans would get as an error in the outfield cost the Titans in the bottom of the third and then it looked like reliever Brianna Geiger would get out of a jam in the fourth but a passed ball on a strikeout for the third out got away and the Falcons would score four runs.

The Titans finish the season 14-35.
