Titans drop softball doubleheader to close regular season

Eastern Florida's softball team closed its regular season on Tuesday by dropping a doubleheader to Seminole State College at the Titan Softball Complex on the Melbourne Campus.

Seminole won the first game 5-1 and the second 15-2.

Mid-Florida Conference champion Seminole State improved to 48-7 overall. Eastern Florida, which finished fourth in Southern Conference fell to 13-33 overall. Both are bound for the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Tournament at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, April 28-30.

They'll meet again at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 28 in the opening round of the double elimination tournament. Eastern Florida has advanced to the state tournament for 13 straight seasons.

The Titans last won in the state tournament in 2011 when they went 2-2.

The Titans regular-season finale also doubled as Sophomore Day for third baseman Savannah Alley and designated player Karli Smith who were recognized between games.

Seminole allowed six Eastern Florida hits and took advantage of three Titans errors to capture the first game.

The Raiders spotted the Titans a 1-0 first-inning advantage but took the lead with three runs in the third inning on a walk, two bunts, two singles and two errors.

Abby Ferlin had two hits, a single and double, for the Titans and the lone run batted in.

Jordan Lawlis took the loss on the mound, allowing nine hits.

Seminole put the second game out of reach with seven first-inning runs. The Raiders added five runs in the third for a 12-0 lead.

The winners banged out 11 hits and took advantage of five Titan errors and seven walks.

Brooke Diaz drove in both Titan runs in the fifth inning. Mary Waldon had two of the Titans five hits.

Starting pitcher Brianna Geiger took the loss.
