Men's cross country team wins NJCAA Region 8 championship

The Eastern Florida State College men's cross country team made history Friday morning, winning the NJCAA Region 8 championship Friday morning at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Eastern Florida State College topped Seminole State College for the title to advance to the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Nov. 12 in Tallahassee.

Freshman Dayton Law won the individual title, finishing first in the Division I race with a time of 26 minutes, 38.30 seconds in the 8K race.

"He didn't have a great day but was happy to be able to get the Runner of the Year title," Eastern Florida State College men's cross country coach Doug Butler said. "We didn't have our best day today so to be able to win the Region 8 title is good. They will be better at nationals in a couple weeks."

Right behind Law were teammates Gabriel Garcia (27:30) and Charlie Dickinson (27:36), who placed second and third respectively. Garcia's run was his personal best on the season. Josh Ingalls placed sixth overall with a 28:35 and Nicholas Spence placed eighth with a 29:31.

The Titans will be making their first appearance in the national tournament in their first season.
