Men's tennis duo win opening matches at ITA Cup

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis players had a good first day at the ITA Cup in Georgia.

Sophomore Hugo Car opened the day with a win in the singles quarterfinals as he defeated Tyler Junior College's Faiz Nasyam 6-1, 6-1. Car will advance to the semifinals on Saturday. The No. 2 seed will play Reiya Komagata of Cowley County CC at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

In doubles, Car teamed up with Alexandr Achour in a quarterfinal match that went to a Super Tiebreaker. The duo won the first set 6-2, but lost the second set 4-6 to force the tiebreaker. The duo came through with the win against Glendale Community College's Jean-Baptiste Badon and Lance Morgan 10-4 in the Super Tiebreaker to advance to the semifinals.

The Titans will face No. 1 seed Reiya Komagata and Bruno Nhavene of defending national champion Cowley County in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

The winners will play in the final on Sunday at Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia.
