Men's tennis team defeats ABAC in battle of top five teams

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team won a battle of top five teams in the country Sunday at Titan Tennis Center.

The Titans, who are ranked third in the ITA Collegiate NJCAA Tennis Rankings, defeated No. 5 Abraham Baldwin College 7-2 to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Eastern Florida State College took a 2-1 lead in doubles as the duo of George Myers Millington and Colin Tavares picked up the 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles and Eric Tripathi and Eavan Attie won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

Up 2-1, the Titans took the courts for singles matches and won five of the six matches.

Hugo Car looked really sharp at No. 1 singles, defeating Safar Rasulov in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Car and Rasulov had some long, competitive points throughout the match but Car remained unbeaten in singles this season at 7-0.

Lucas Gonzalez, Jett Leong and Victor Arrese won their singles matches in straight sets. Colin Tavares split the first two sets with ABAC's Benjamin Ranby-al to send it to the tiebreaker. Arrese picked up the win with a 10-6 win.

Eastern Florida State College will host Post University Thursday, March 16 at 10 a.m. at Titan Tennis Center on the Melbourne campus.
