Men's tennis team qualifies for national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team has qualified for the NJCAA National Championship Tournament for the fourth straight season.

The Titans will travel to Tyler, Texas to compete for a national title beginning May 16. Eastern Florida State College has finished tied for fourth in the past two national tournaments and are playing some of their best tennis this past month as they prepare for this season's tournament.

The men come into the postseason ranked No. 4 in the latest ITA Men's National Team Rankings and are the top team in the Region IV team rankings.

"We are playing well because of our strong schedule this past month," Eastern Florida State College men's tennis coach Bobby Cashman said. I am proud of this group especially Ramiro (Rincon), Luc (Pasqual Camps), Jaewoo (Choi) and Lucas (Gonzalez) who show very good leadership. Obviously getting ready for nationals is exciting and I believe their hard work will pay off."

Lucas Gonzalez comes into the national tournament ranked No. 10 in the latest ITA NJCAA Men's National Singles Rankings. Teammate Ramiro Rincon is ranked 30th in the nation in singles and Luc Pasqual Camps is No. 40.

The doubles team of Gonzalez and George Myers Millington are ranked ninth in the ITA National Doubles rankings.

Bernardo Vieira, who was part of the national-championship N. 3 doubles team last season is back and this year is teaming with Ramiro Rincon in the national tournament. The duo is ranked 13th in the doubles rankings.

The Titans have finished tied for fourth overall in each of the past two national tournament appearances.
