Men's tennis team opens with a win at national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team opened the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament with a win in Plano, Texas.

Tomas Reche opened his tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast CC's Seth Macute in the first round and will play No. 3 seed Gaston Cantero from ABAC Tuesday in the second round.

Dario Kmet had a bye as the No. 1 seed at No. 2 singles and will play Lake County's Billy Friedman at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Friedman won 6-3, 6-1 in the first round.

Sergio Gomez Boix is also a No. 1 seed at No. 5 singles and had a bye in the first round. Gomez Boiz will play Jacksonville's Ryan Christensen who won in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 in the first round.

Mikar Fisher is a second seed at No. 3 singles and had a bye in the first round. Fisher will play USC Sumter's Sabri Laphitz who won 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.

The No. 3 doubles team of Reche and Bernardo Vieira is also a No. 2 seed and had a bye. They will play Jacksonville's Ryan Christensen and Daniel Shelton in the second round.

Ramiro Rincon is a four seed at No. 4 singles and received a bye in the first round. Rincon will play Saulk Valley's Jacob Terveer who picked up a win 6-1, 6-4 on Monday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kmet and Ramiro are also a four seed and had a bye in the first round. They will face East Central CC's Chris Lawrence and Isaac Santitto who won 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.

The No. 2 doubles team of Fisher and Gomez Boiz are the five seed and also had a bye in the first round. They will play Kaskaskia's Dylan Bargetzi and Mitchell Cagle in the second round.

Jaewoo Choi is the six seed at No. 6 singles and had a bye on Monday as well. He will play Mesa's Hung Pham in the second round. Pham won his first-round match 6-4, 6-3 Monday.
