Men's tennis players Oervad, Michel and assistant coach recognized during national tournament banquet

Freshman Frederik Oervad and sophomore Nils Michel were recognized during the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championship banquet on Sunday.

The tournament begins on Monday in Tucson, Arizona. 

Oervad was named the ITA Rookie Regional player of the year in Region 8 as well as the National ITA Rookie of the Year. Michel was named the ITA Most Improved Sophomore Player of the Year in in Region 8. Assistant head coach Brandon Stokes was also named the ITA Assistant Coach of the year in Region 8.

Oervad will team with sophomore Adriel Azucey open the national tournament today at 2:30 p.m. MST at No. 1 doubles. The duo will face Collin's Hector Flores and Abriham Venkatachalam in the first round.

The No. 3 doubles team of Sebastian Bunster and Fabricio Galvan will also open on Monday, facing Collin's Kameron Dehart and KeVon Webb at 4 p.m. MST.

All six of the singles players received byes in the first round.

Oervad is the No. 5 seed at No. 1 singles, while Michel is the second seed at No. 2 singles and Azucey is the third seed at No. 3 singles.

Galvan is a No. 5 seed at No. 4 singles while Sebastian Bunster is the sixth seed at No. 5 singles and Nicholas Mora is the fourth seed at No. 6 singles. They will all open the tournament on Tuesday.
