Men's tennis team fares well at Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team fared well at the Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational over the weekend.

As one of only two junior colleges in the tournament, the Titans fared well in singles as Nils Michel made it to the main draw final in the B bracket, losing in the final.

"Overall I played a solid tournament," Michel said. "I won the first round feeling good on the court and stayed aggressive during the whole match. Second match was pretty similar, I won in two sets and was hitting deep in the court. I lost the final after a pretty tight match but I learned a lot from this match."

Frederik Oervad lost in the semifinal of the main draw of the A bracket and went on to win the consolation bracket, beating Flagler's Felipe Carvalho 6-4, 6-1.

Fabricio Galvan lost his first match in the main draw of the D bracket but bounced back to win twice in the consolation bracket.

In the E bracket, Nicholas Mora lost the opener but made it to the final of the consolation draw.

"A talented and tough tournament field. It was a solid challenge for us and this is how we improve as a team and grow our program," Eastern Florida State College men's tennis assistant coach Brandon Stokes said. "We are growing individually on the court as competitors which is part of the process, but to distinguish ourselves in the state and nationally we must form an unbreakable bond as a team. We are making strides but the time to unify is now."

The men's tennis team will compete in the Panther Clay Court Invitational this weekend at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club. The tournament will be the final event of the fall for the men's tennis team.
