Oervad loses in first round of ITA Cup

Eastern Florida State College men's tennis player Frederik Oervad got off to a slow start in the first round of the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia.

After a 90-minute delay due to rains from Hurricane Michael, the freshman from Denmark lost the first set 6-4 to No. 4 seed Nicolas Rousset of Seward County but Oervad evened the match with a 7-5 win in the second set.

The third set came right down to the end as the players tied 6-6 but Rousset won the tiebreaker 8-6 in a match that lasted two and a half hours.

Oervad will play ASA Miami's Josh Rose Friday morning in the backdraw at the Rome Tennis Center. Rose lost to No. 1 seed Marcus Walters of Tyler Junior College, 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday.
