Men's tennis players Oervad, Galvan perfect in fall opener

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team finished off a strong opening weekend at the Embry-Riddle Open Sunday.

In the Gold Flight, Frederik Oervad finished a perfect weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Embry Riddle's Juan Couder. Oervad won all four matches in straight sets.

"Overall I played a good tournament, I felt good on the court which resulted in winning all four of my singles matches and one doubles match without losing a set," Oervad said.

Teammate Nils Michel went 3-1 in the tournament and Adriel Acuzey was 1-2 in the Gold Flight.

Fabricio Galvan was a perfect 3-0 in the Blue Flight, beating Embry Riddle's Zen Manwani 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday.

"From the beginning of the tournament I felt capable of doing good," Galvan said. "I was not even worried about winning or losing, just to play well and do what I know best. My victories were the result of my positive mindset, hard work and preparation."

The Titans will compete in the ITA Regional Championships Sept. 27-29 in Tifton, Ga.

"This was a positive tournament experience for us. We emerge closer and tougher because of this weekend and the boys improved over the three days of competition," Eastern Florida State College men's tennis assistant coach Brandon Stokes said.
