Michel, Monroy and Manseri named ITA All-Americans

Three Eastern Florida State College tennis players made history this week, becoming the first players I program history to be named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America team.

Yuliana Monroy made the team in singles after a historic season in which the sophomore won the Region 8 No. 1 singles title and was named the Region 8 Player of the Year. Monroy, who finished the season No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA national singles ranking, made it to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Waco, Texas.

Nils Michel made the team in singles after a big first season with the Titans. The freshman from Rennes, France, who is ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA national rankings, made it to the quarterfinals in the National Championship Tournament in Plano, Texas.

"I am so happy for both Yuliana and Nils as they become the first All-Americans in singles in their respective programs," Eastern Florida State College tennis coach Bobby Cashman said.

Monroy and doubles partner Sarah Manseri also made the All-American team in doubles after making it to the quarterfinals in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. The duo is No. 5 in the final Oracle/ITA national doubles rankings.

"Very happy for Yuliana and Sarah becoming All-Americans," Cashman said. "Both players made big strides in their doubles play and understand what it takes to play at the highest level."

Overall, the women's team placed fifth in the national tournament and finishes the season ranked fifth in the Oracle/ITA national rankings. The men's program placed in a tie for sixth place in the national tournament and finishes the season No. 7 in the final Oracle/ITA national rankings.
