Men's soccer team tops Monroe for 10th win

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a win against the two-time defending national champions Saturday night at Orlando Health Stadium.

The eighth ranked Titans dominated possession for most of the night and a late goal by sophomore Daiki Okada gave Eastern Florida State College a 2-1 win over No. 16 Monroe University shown live on WEFS-TV.

Eastern Florida State College got on the board first when Luc Achermann-Stanfield's corner kick went to Lars Bekman who headed it to the middle of the goal where Marcellus McCoy tapped it to Rhys Shirley who put it in.

Monroe University would tie the game 1-1 with 24:45 left in the first half when Kelvin Yengbie made a nice cross past goalkeeper Mateo Garcia-Galan and Braxton Richards buried it.

It would remain tied in the second half as the Titans continued to threaten and finally with just under 15 minutes left in the contest, they found the game winner.

Zak Ford streaked down the field and made a beautiful cross that Daiki Okada slid into the back of the net. It was Okada's first goal of the season and it was a big one for the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College finishes the season 10-2-2 and will wait to see where they will play the Region 8 Semifinal next Friday. If Miami Dade College defeats Daytona State College, it will be at Orlando Health Stadium. If Daytona State wins, they will host the game Friday. Daytona State College will travel to Miami Dade for the final game of the regular season on Tuesday night.
