Men's soccer team blanks Victory Rock Prep

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team picked up their fifth win of the season Tuesday afternoon at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans, who are ranked No. 9 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, blanked Victory Rock Prep 3-0 to improve to 5-1.

Freshman Rhys Shirley made his Titans debut after an injury and scored twice in the game. Shirley opened up the scoring with seven seconds left in the first half as a penalty was called in the box and Shirley stepped up and buried the penalty kick.

Up 1-0, Shirley scored his second goal of the day 20 minutes into the second half and five minutes later Daniele Verdirosi would score to make it 3-0.

Shortly after the third goal clouds and lightning rolled in causing the game to finish short of the 90 minutes.

Eastern Florida State College outshot Victory Rock 22-0. The Titans will open the Region 8 season on Tuesday night, traveling to Daytona State College for a matchup of top 10 teams. The game at Daytona State College will begin at 7 p.m. and will be shown live on WDSC-TV.
