Men's soccer team opens season vs. Eastern Oklahoma in Texas
The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team will open the regular season with a pair of games in Texas.
The Titans, who come into the season No. 10 in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll, will open the season Friday against No. 15 Eastern Oklahoma at 5 p.m. in Richland, Texas.
"Getting to go open the season against a ranked opponent is good, we are excited to get to play teams that were in the national tournament and kind of see them as the favorites after we didn't get the rub of the greens last year," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Adam Butler said. "Eastern Oklahoma is a good club that made the national tournament, it will be a good test for us."
The men's soccer team has eight players returning from last year's team including Jack Nelson who scored 12 goals in 12 games last season as well as starting defenders George Wyatt and Ryan Thomas.
"We have a lot of new faces, it is an exciting group, definitely talented but it is going to be a bit of a challenge getting them together and getting the pieces aligned," Butler said.
Then on Sunday the Titans will play Coastal Bend where coach Butler was the head coach before coming to Eastern Florida State College.
"Always a difficult program and one that is close to my heart, will get to see some old friends and see the jersey again," Butler said. "We are facing two good programs to start the season and are excited for the opportunity."
Eastern Florida State College will be at Orlando Health Stadium for the home opener on Friday, September 1 against Fort Lauderdale University. The home opener will kick off at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
